Sandys Dress and Bloomers now avialable

Recently a friend asked me to design a summer dress for her to make for some friends children to wear on the the 4th of July at the beach. Now when she said they wanted to do family photos at the beach on the 4th one image immediately came to mind. These images spring to mind when certain things are mentioned, its normal for me. Anyways, this image sprang to mind again, its been in my mind for years and I have attempted this outfit on different occasions for my daughters and gotten close but never quite what I wanted.

So back the pattern. The image that came to mind was one of a 1920s bathing costume. 1920s Bathing costume
I love the modesty, the coverage and lets face it I love the history of fashions so these bathing costumes have always been a favorite.

So the with the bathing costume in mind and the knowledge that I wanted this pattern to be able to be worn by today’s girls I went to the drawing board…..wait wait I went to the computer and started drawing. The end result was exactly what I have had floating in my mind for years.

The bodices of the top can be smocked, a love of mine. I love to see little ones in smocking. I would still put my 8 yr old grandson in smocking of only he and his poppy would allow me to. But at any rate I use and add smocking anywhere possible and in this case the high empire bodice was perfect for smocking. the simple wave stitch was perfect for the bodice.

But knowing that some have not found the love of smocking yet, I decided to include an embroidered and plain fabric options for the bodice as well. All of the bodices have the option of piping around the neckline and armscyes, finished off with bias binding either self fabric or purchased binding.

The dress has two lengths, we started with one and had to do the tunic length simply because it allows the adorable bloomers to show. But you can definitely just make the dress length and skip the bloomers.

The scoop back and single button closure complete the top and make the back as fun as the front. Low enough for drama but high enough to keep everything modest its a sure win. The best and most fun part of the back is the button. Make it big and dramatic and fun!

The bloomers are capri length, for fun and for showing off peeking from under the dress. They feature a ribbon or smocked casing and ribbon ties for cinching them in.

I packed this pattern full of any and all options I could think of and can promise I will be making many more for all the little ladies in my world!

BebeLambs Berkley and Labri maxi dresses

GEDC1195The berkley and labri are patterns for both mom and daughter. The berkley is a pattern designed for all sizes of women from the petite slender momma to the full figured gal.  These patterns have all lengths included-tunic length, knee length and maxi.  Both patterns are designed for the comfort of the wearer!

GEDC1198For this post I will focus on the berkley.  This dress features an elasticized back and a fitted bodice front.  The straps tie through the bodice in the back.

The skirt add a feature that we absolutely loved, the inseam pockets.  just the perfect size for my daughter to conceal both her inhaler and her cell phone.  But she managed to get her license and car keys in as well.

She loves the fact that the dress can be dressed up or down to suit her needs while still being completely comfortable for wearing all day or all evening.

Grammies Dolls dresses lil princes as well as the princesses.

GEDC0965-with-markOk so there was not blog post on Monday.  The day just got away from me as I was sewing up some samples to show a local gift shop.  Was it worth it?  Yes!!!  Grammies Dolls fashions will soon be available in a local gift shop in Littlestown PA.  More to come on that later.

Now I know today is Thursday and I normally post on Wednesdays but I have something that will make up for the delay.  Today I have the very first boys outfit for you.  There is a definite lack of boutiques that provide for out lil male friends so here is one to delight.

I remember seeing rompers for baby boys when I was a child and they have always been in the back of my mind.  When my grandsons were babies I made them clothes.  And kept them dressed in little rompers.  So I decided right before Easter to make sure my neighbors little grandson was given the same blessing.

GEDC0974-with-markThis little sailor suit is the first of my boys listing but wont be the last.  The pattern for this outfit is a mashup or mix of two designers.  The first being on of my go to designers, Ellie Inspired, we know I love her patterns you see them often.  The other designer is quickly winning her way into my line up as will, Jen over at Tie Dye Diva is super as well.

So the hat is from Tie Dye Diva and available in her website.  The romper top come from Tie Dye Diva’s Sailor Dress pattern, and the bottom of the romper is the bottom of the Vintage Baby pattern from Ellie inspired.

I moved the opening of the Vintage baby to the from to match up with the Sailor dress opening in the front.  So the romper close in the front with buttons.

This set can be made in sizes 0-3 months to 24 months and allows room for both cloth diapered bums or disposable diapered bums.

After the outfit was done and I was happy with it I presented it to my neighbor and her daughter who furnished my adorable model and both were thrilled with both the fit and the look of the outfit.  I also did some internet searching the the closest comparisons I could find to this outfit were only available in the UK and cost in excess of $60,00.

You however can order your Sailor Set in the size of your choice for $40.00 plus shipping!  Get your order in today.  Use the handy contact form to note your size, and whether you want a navy outfit with white trim or white with royal blue trim.

The tunic length top comes with my favorite sutton shorts.  Wear it as a summer top with the shorts, then in the fall it will transition to layering as quick as 1,2, 3.  Add leggings or jeans and they are all ready for school! Order until Monday at midnight eastern time here

The Pre-orders are Coming

As I announced last week things have changed a bit at Grammies Dolls.  Later today I will post the very first of the pre-orders for this summer.  These are items that I will make only by order.  the order price will be significantly lower than if I was simply listing a new item on the site.

The pre-order system means that I will be ordering a set amount of fabric so will insure that I have enough on hand to complete all orders.  it also allows me to set a specific date during which the order will ship.

Pre-orders will be available here and on my facebook page.  The pre-orders will be open for a limited amount of time (usually for 48-72 hours.  If you need additional time please contact me via the contact form.  Pre-orders must be paid for that the time of order.  No order is started without payment in hand.

With all of that being said.  Here is a preview of one of the pre-orders that will be posted here and on facebook Saturday may 10th.

the Poppy Fields Romper

DSCF0022-sizedRecently I was honored to test a new pattern. What was special about this one, I test new patterns all the time right? This pattern was perfect for summer, its a romper but its not just for the itty bitties like we are used to. So off we go on the Poppy Fields Romper by Ellie Inspired.

savannya-1I actually made 6 of these rompers during the testing period. Why make 6 of them? Well it has so many options you cant get them all into just one romper. Some of the options include ruffled or non ruffled straps. Speaking of the straps they can button in the front or in the back.

4-and-5You can choose shorts, capri length or trouser length. Once you choose you length you can add a band, a cuff or a ruffle onto the leg lenth that you choose.

meganThis pattern includes set in pockets on the front, but its up to you if you add a ruffle pointing up or down, or choose to use binding or piping, again the options are unlimited.

back-of-7You also have the option of adding back pockets or not. The options for this pattern are truly endless.

Most importantly to me is that this pattern runs from 18 months all the way to a girls 16. I found that to be a wonderful thing. Even girls that are on the brink of moving into puberty need to be dressed as little girls not as woman. So any pattern that works and comes in the tween sizes impresses me and this one certainly does.

As always here is a link to the Ellie Inspired Site to get your own pattern, but if you want the romper ready to wear you can use the contact form and I will be happy to work with you on the fabric choices to get your romper just right for you!

How Grammies Dolls will change and what will not change.

You will have noticed by now that Grammies Dolls has a new look. It does the old site was hard for you, my customers to navigate….well to be honest it was hard for me to navigate too. So we changed that!

Now what other changes are going to happen and why? Well one thing that you learn by the time you get to be a Grammie is that change is a good thing if it improves things. These changes will do that. They will allow me to serve you better and get you what you want, clothes for your children that keep them young for as long as possible. Ok so what are the changes?

Well one of the changes will be pre-orders. I will post an outfit, actually my hope is that I will post 2 outfits each month during the first week of the month. They will be open for orders for 1 week (7 days) your going to place your order and the outfits will ship out to you during the third week of that month. This should stream line things for everyone.

The ready to ship items will still be available to purchase at all times. The items in the gallery are still going to be available for order, BUT and this is a big but those order opportunities will be limited to 4 items per month. So you will need to plan accordingly to get into the slots for custom orders.

All of these changes are designed to help all of my customers to get what they want in a timely fashion. So whats up for pre-order this month? well you will know that on monday but let me tell you these are some great items!!!

Asymmetrical Outfit

GE DIGITAL CAMERAI had a designer ask me to test a pattern, seems I had the right size model for her.  I was happy to test it for her.  Turns out it is an adorable Asymmetrical tunic top, it will be a change to her existing pattern.

elaina-backOriginally I tested the 9-12 months for her and loved the pattern so much that I had to try it again with my size 6 friend.  And again it was a winner.

The one shoulder design is not usually my favorite, as we all know Grammies Dolls is founded on modest clothes and one shoulder designs usually don’t equate to modest.  This one however incorporates a ribbon tie for the bared shoulder which allows our active little friends the ability to play and run and still have their top stay in place.

full-collageI paired the smaller sizes with ruffle bum bloomers, and the older sizes with my favorite new shorts.  I truly love the sutton shorts by my friend over at BeBelambs.

If your interested in making your over version of this outfit head on over to the links above and get the patterns, if you would like a set ready to wear, click on the contact form and let me know that you want the Asymmetrical outfit and what size you want.  it is available in sizes 6 months – 8 years with the complimentary headband for 30.00.

Hope Floats

frontI recently tested this wonderful new pattern from BebeLambs Clothing. This wonderful reverse knot top is simply too cute.

The semi fitted bodice, and full skirt make it wonderful from every occasion from a day at the park to high tea with Grandma.

backThe wide straps keep modesty in mind. The straps then tie in the back adding the needed bow to complete the outfit

I added a 2 inch ruffle to the bottom of the tunic length shirt, because really can you ever have too many ruffles?  I say not.

Now every pretty shirt needs something on the bottom right?  Well my choice for this one was BebeLambs “Sutton” pants or shorts.  I used the shorts length and added a 3 inch ruffle to the bottom .

This pattern is great for intermediate sewers, or you can order your outfit in sizes newborn to size 8 from my store!
